PRESS RELEASE: ABG Throws its Support Behind the UK's Stand for Our Sovereignty Campaign

friDAY, 11 July 2025

“We’re British. We will not kneel.” - A rallying cry to join the global fight for sovereignty

In a bold move, Australians for Better Government Inc. (ABG) has officially thrown its support behind a surging British movement demanding the return of national sovereignty and democratic accountability. The campaign, ‘Stand for Our Sovereignty’, has already electrified the UK — and has now gained endorsement in Australia.

With the strapline “Enough is enough”, Stand for Our Sovereignty is the result of seven UK independence-minded organisations coming together under one banner – with dramatic results.

High profile celebrities have also thrown their support behind the campaign, including former Prime Minister Boris Johnson. “The British people voted to be a sovereign nation – and yet they are being systematically betrayed,” PM Johnson said. “Count on me as a passionate supporter of this campaign."

Now Australians for Better Government has joined the list. Speaking from Sydney, ABG President Steven Tripp commented, “We are inspired by the British people’s grit and determination to fight for their sovereignty. Australia must share in the UK’s battle to maintain its sovereignty.”

Spearheaded by the Campaign for an Independent Britain (CIBUK), Stand for Our Sovereignty has garnered over half a million views online - and a fierce public backlash. Their first protest, opposing the new “Not for EU” labelling on UK products, was a pushback against the new EU-derived law imposed on the British – with no parliamentary debate permitted by Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour Government.

The law has become a symbol of what campaigners call the ‘slow undoing’ of Brexit and the erosion of democratic self-rule. “From food labelling and fishing to foreign affairs, immigration and Net Zero, key decisions are now made — often with EU involvement — without Parliamentary vote or public consent,” Chairman of CIBUK, Leigh Evans commented.

“What we have seen in the UK is a direct betrayal of fundamental democratic accountability. We’re British. We will not kneel.”

ABG’s support for CIBUK’s ‘Stand for Our Sovereignty’ campaign comes after an agreement of affiliation between the two groups, with CIBUK acting as the umbrella group for all the UK organisations backing the campaign. The affiliation sees Leigh Evans become an ABG National Committee Member and Honorary Ambassador to the UK and Europe, and Australians for Better Government being given Affiliate Status by CIBUK.

“Australia shares similar democratic challenges and threats of international treaties eroding our sovereignty.” Mr. Tripp said. “The affiliation between our two organisations is an important step in fighting for the sovereignty of both the UK and Australia.”

Evans welcomed the support from Australia. “Since the UK left the EU, the traditionally strong relations between our peoples have started getting back to normal,” says Evans. “We have a free trade agreement reached in record time, the AUKUS defence pact for submarines, and the UK joining the CPTPP trading bloc. Working with our freedom-loving Australian friends at ABG is a natural development.”
