Australians MUST be given a say on immigration
Australians MUST be given a say on immigration
Article by Steven Tripp
“We will decide who comes to this country and the circumstances in which they come.”
This was the famous quote by then Prime Minister John Howard at his 2001 election campaign launch.
Many took it as a statement of defiance; the line in the sand to say that Australia alone will decide its immigration intake and the character of the migrants we allow into the country.
Unfortunately, what Howard was really saying was that ‘we the politicians’ decide, not everyday Australians.
Has Power Been Taken from Australians?
Has Power Been Taken from Australians?

I believe it has, but I also believe it’s not too late to reclaim it.
Decisions that shape everyday life in Australia increasingly feel distant, abstract, and insulated from public influence. Over time, there has been an observable drift of power away from the people, and toward interconnected networks of influence that operate with limited democratic accountability.
This drift didn’t happen overnight. It occurred slowly, over decades, quietly enough that many Australians, including myself, didn’t fully notice it at the time.
The BOM Website Debacle
The BOM Website Debacle: The legacy Political Parties like to blame each other, but is there a more fundamental issue
Article by Mark Neugebauer
The controversy surrounding the Bureau of Meteorology’s website overhaul is not just a story of a bungled IT project or a cost blowout. It is a symptom of a deeper, structural problem in Australian governance—one that neither major party seems willing to confront, because both are complicit in creating and maintaining it. For Australians for Better Government (ABG), the BOM saga is precisely the sort of failure that exposes why our country needs a more transparent, accountable and modern system of executive leadership.

Australians for Better Government calls for the Australian people to be given the power to set immigration levels
In reaction to Sunday’s horrific terrorist incident at Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach, in which innocent lives were tragically lost, Australians for Better Government (ABG) is calling for public plebiscites to determine Australia’s immigration intake.
“ABG is loathed to politicise the tragic shooting at Bondi Beach on Sunday,” announced ABG President Steven Tripp. “But unfortunately, the incident is a clear failure of Governance.”

Reconciliation must unite South Australians. Policies that divide us along ancestry cannot foster genuine equality
South Australia is currently progressing elements of the Uluru Statement from the Heart at a state level, including the establishment of a First Nations Voice, the development of truth-telling processes, and the intention to explore treaty negotiations with South Australian Aborigines.

ABG Movement Spreads to Adelaide - Australians for Better Government - Newsletter 12
Adelaide was once a major hub for car manufacturing, with companies like General Motors Holden operating large plants. Not only cars, but Adelaide manufacturing also extended to defence industries, such as shipbuilding, and significant electronics manufacturing, with firms like Mitsubishi Electric producing consumer goods and components.
Manufacturing provided thousands of jobs and contributed significantly to South Australia’s economy, peaking in the 1960s-1980s. The sector employed around 20% of the state’s workforce at its height.

PRESS RELEASE: Australians for Better Government Tells Politicians to Step Aside on Voting Age Reform
Speaking on behalf of ABG, President Steven Tripp said, “ABG’s official position on the voting age is that it should be up to the Australian people to decide, by way of a binding plebiscite”.
“There are conflicting views across the political spectrum on what the appropriate age should be, including debate within ABG itself. But regardless of what the age should be, where the ABG Committee finds solid consensus is that it is not up to the politicians to decide. Politicians should be the last group of people who have any influence over our voting system,” Mr. Tripp added emphatically.

Why Australia has Endless Horizons
Australians for Better Government - Newsletter 09
Australia has so much potential. We are blessed with everything we could ever hope for.
Unfortunately, we have failed to approach our potential as the result of bad Government and an inadequate system.
Despite being blessed with an abundance of natural resources, our electricity prices are more expensive than ever. Furthermore, we are one of the highest taxed Countries in the World, despite the money that is made (or should be made) from our exports.

Her Excellency, the Honourable Sam Mostyn is Australia’s Governor General. She has recently supported a campaign to improve civics scores among our youth.
Civics education is of fundamental importance in the view of Australians for Better Government and an area we wish to be active.

HOW PREFERENTIAL VOTING SHOULD REALLY WORK
HOW PREFERENTIAL VOTING SHOULD REALLY WORK
Article by Kevin Loughrey
The objective of preferential voting is to provide a measure of which candidate has the most support amongst the electors of an electorate.
The present system of preferential voting does not achieve this. The present system is, in a way, a variation of "first past the post" voting system. It is not a pure preferential system.
