PRESS RELEASE: Australians for Better Government Calls for Caution on ASIO Amendment Bill (No. 2) 2025

Australians for Better Government (ABG) urges the Senate to carefully scrutinise the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation Amendment Bill (No. 2) 2025 before expanding the scope of ASIO and make compulsory questioning powers permanent.

With a Senate vote expected before the end of April, the time for meaningful safeguards is now.

ABG representative, Debra Yuille said, “ABG recognises that ASIO plays a vital role in protecting Australians from serious threats. However, extraordinary coercive powers must require exceptional justification, rigorous independent oversight, and periodic democratic renewal”.

Reflecting on ANZAC Day and the Pride Our Diggers Gave to this Nation - ABG Update #17

In the times we live in, it feels as though Australians and our culture are being viewed through a negative lens. We contend with 'Invasion Day' protests on Australia Day. We are guilted into feeling ashamed of our history, while completely ignoring the many positives that have made this country great. Abhorrently, we even have politicians who refuse to stand in front of the Australian flag.

One of the pillars of ABG is to instill pride back in Australia and to celebrate the many achievements and accomplishments that we have made as a nation.

Perhaps one of the things we should be most proud of is our distinguished military history, which we celebrate on ANZAC Day.

WE THE PEOPLE - Empowering a New Age of Government - ABG Update #16

For years, successive Australian governments have failed to deliver basic national security fundamentals that every responsible country should have. One of the most alarming failures is Australia’s dangerously low fuel security.

Despite repeated warnings from experts, our government has not ensured even a 90-day strategic fuel reserve. This leaves our nation critically vulnerable. In a major global disruption — whether caused by conflict, natural disaster, or supply chain failure — Australia could run out of fuel in a matter of weeks.

Beyond the Campaign: The Constitutional Questions Behind South Australia’s 2026 Election

Article by Mark Neugebauer

As South Australians approach the March 2026 state election, public debate is narrowing around leadership, polling momentum, and cost-of-living pressures.

Of course those matter, but this election is unfolding under altered constitutional conditions, and that deserves closer attention.

For the first time in our state’s history, South Australia operates with a legislated First Nations Voice to Parliament, elected separately and structured on the basis of Aboriginal ancestry.

Has Power Been Taken from Australians?

Has Power Been Taken from Australians?

Article by Mark Neugebauer

I believe it has, but I also believe it’s not too late to reclaim it.

Decisions that shape everyday life in Australia increasingly feel distant, abstract, and insulated from public influence. Over time, there has been an observable drift of power away from the people, and toward interconnected networks of influence that operate with limited democratic accountability.

This drift didn’t happen overnight. It occurred slowly, over decades, quietly enough that many Australians, including myself, didn’t fully notice it at the time.

The BOM Website Debacle: The legacy Political Parties like to blame each other, but is there a more fundamental issue

Article by Mark Neugebauer

The controversy surrounding the Bureau of Meteorology’s website overhaul is not just a story of a bungled IT project or a cost blowout. It is a symptom of a deeper, structural problem in Australian governance—one that neither major party seems willing to confront, because both are complicit in creating and maintaining it. For Australians for Better Government (ABG), the BOM saga is precisely the sort of failure that exposes why our country needs a more transparent, accountable and modern system of executive leadership.

South Australia’s Uluru Statement: Recognising History Without Redefining Equality

Article by Mark Neugebauer

Reconciliation must unite South Australians. Policies that divide us along ancestry cannot foster genuine equality

South Australia is currently progressing elements of the Uluru Statement from the Heart at a state level, including the establishment of a First Nations Voice, the development of truth-telling processes, and the intention to explore treaty negotiations with South Australian Aborigines.

ABG Movement Spreads to Adelaide - Australians for Better Government - Newsletter 12

Adelaide was once a major hub for car manufacturing, with companies like General Motors Holden operating large plants. Not only cars, but Adelaide manufacturing also extended to defence industries, such as shipbuilding, and significant electronics manufacturing, with firms like Mitsubishi Electric producing consumer goods and components.

Manufacturing provided thousands of jobs and contributed significantly to South Australia’s economy, peaking in the 1960s-1980s. The sector employed around 20% of the state’s workforce at its height.
